  • tags on photos now show first initial and last name; or entire first name if last name does not exist
  • when viewing a photo thumbnail or photo in the viewer, the info panel in the right now includes all details about album membership. this new feature allows you to select multiple photos and verify the albums that the selected photos exist in… and either add or delete to those albums from the right hand panel by clicking on the links

Mar 4, 2014 – Fotobounce Desktop Version 3.9.5 released

Enhancements and fixes include the following items:

  • All export options now include face tag info in Adobe XMP format. What this means is that any album, date or face tags you create in Fotobounce are exported along with the images. This data can be read by MS Photo Gallery and Google Picasa so you don’t have to redo your tagging work if you prefer the world’s best tagging product – Fotobounce!
  • There is a new “Export all” option that will export your photos into folders by Year. This can be used for backups and in the future to send photos to Fotobounce in the Cloud. We are modifying the Fotobounce Cloud scanning option to pick up this new tag data.
  • The Quick Find feature (accessed by pressing CTRL-F) now searches photo captions in addition to Dates, Albums and People. So if you are looking for something in thousands of photos you CAN find a needle in a haystack.

Nov 29, 2013 – Fotobounce now offers a private Roku channel

The Roku set-top box provides a very cost effective way to turn any TV into a smart TV. We have created a channel on Roku that allows you to privately and securely (using SSL encryption) view your Fotobounce desktop photos on your big screen TV. You simply turn remote access on via the Fotobounce Desktop settings menu (similar to the way you would to use the mobile Fotobounce Viewer app or the Fotobounce.mobi website), and then enter your login details using the Roku remote on the Fotobounce channel.

“We believe the TV is a great way to share your photos with family and friends.” states Ray Ganong, Co-CEO of Applied Recognition. “It is also a great way to share private photos with your elderly parents who may not be comfortable with computers and email.” adds Don Waugh, Co-CEO and Founder.

To get the new Fotobounce channel on your Roku, go to the web URL: https://owner.roku.com/

You will be prompted to login to your Roku account; within 24 hours (or immediately if you do a Roku system update check) the Fotobounce channel will show up on your channel menu. Then you can start using it!

The private app code is DPSAK. Note that this code may change from time to time and we will update our website under the FAQ section with the latest code and version number. You can also click on this link directly: https://owner.roku.com/add/DPSAK

Nov 20, 2013 – Fotobounce™ outperforms Apple, Google and Microsoft’s photo tagging software

An independent study confirms that Fotobounce delivers faster speed, better accuracy and the best efficiency in tagging digital photos using face recognition. The tests pitted Fotobounce against Apple iPhoto™, Google Picasa™ and Microsoft Photo Gallery™.

Independent testing confirms what users repeatedly report – that Fotobounce’s advanced face recognition technology is the best in the world for tagging and organizing digital photos. Fotobounce outperforms Apple iPhoto™, Google Picasa™ and Microsoft Photo Gallery™.

Accuracy is only part of the story when it comes to applying face recognition technology to help consumers tag their photos. Another aspect that is just as important is the way the application uses face recognition suggestions and how they are presented to users. “We have spent a long time developing the best technology solution for both accuracy and workflow. The resulting app is the best in the world for user efficiency!” states Ray Ganong, Co-CEO for Applied Recognition.

TestMile (www.testmile.com), an independent test company, tested all four products with a random selection of digital photos representing typical consumer smartphone and digital cameras. Testmile tested the user experience, tracking the number of mouse clicks, time and face detection and recognition results. Fotobounce won in all categories.

Here is a summary chart showing the results:

Oct 20, 2013 – Fotobounce Desktop Version 3.9.3 released

Enhancements and fixes include the following items:

  • We display the original photo thumbnail for any selected face in the right hand pane. This is very useful when tagging unidentified faces so you can see the original context for the photo – especially if you don’t recognize someone.
  • A fix to the Facebook login process made necessary by a change to the Facebook API. People with existing Facebook connections don’t have a problem, but people logging in for the first time will have an issue with V3.9.2 or earlier versions.
  • Don’t forget the new private sharing feature for your photos released in V3.9.2. Select an album, date range, set of photos for a person, or just a single photo and there is a new ‘Post’ option to send the photos to the Fotobounce Website. Upon successful upload you are presented with a link to your photos on our website. The photos are temporarily stored on our site for 30 days and you can use the link in a variety of ways including email, Skype chats, Facebook posts or anywhere else online. By using this feature you don’t have to worry about your photos living on forever on the Internet, but still allows you to share them with friends and family on a time sensitive basis. Here is a link to a short video demonstrating this feature: http://youtu.be/OVIqDl5lef8

Apr 11, 2013 – Fotobounce Viewer Version 1.3 released for Apple mobile devices

Fotobounce Viewer on Apple iTunes has just been updated to Version 1.3. The new version fully supports iOS6 with retina displays and supports the new “popularity” sorting order for displaying people in your Fotobounce library.

If you haven’t tried the Viewer listen to what a new user recently had to say about Fotobounce:

Manpreet S. – Apr 5/13
I would just like to say this Fotobounce is one of the best products for photo organizing I have come across. The support I’ve received from the Fotobounce team has been excellent. For me, the best features are being able to store my photos on my pc and view them on my mobile device!

Mar 14, 2013 – Fotobounce releases V3.7.8

Fotobounce has just released Version 3.7.8 with the following features:

  • Duplicate photos can be displayed in many different views now – Albums, Photos by Date, and Photos by Person. New option under the Photos menu for ‘Showing Duplicates Only’. This handy tool allows you to easily find and eliminate duplicates. For example, if you want to review Recently Added Photos to see if you already have those photos in your library… click on ‘Recently Added’ in the left menu, then from the Photo menu at the top click ‘Show Duplicates Only’. Any thumbnails you see will be photos with dups. Simply click once on the photo thumbnail for any specific photo, and view the right hand pane for info including the folders where the multiple copies are found. You can then decide which copy you want to keep and make any changes (moves/deletes) directly in Windows Explorer.
  • Ability to merge the People list from another Fotobounce library. This new feature will help those with tens of thousands of photos. For example, you could create one library with 10,000 photos – just friends – then you can start another library with a different set of photos and import the People list from the first library. This saves you data entry time and all of the faces copied from the other library are now used with the new library for face recognition purposes.
  • Improved Facebook connection method that is more reliable and handles very large resolution photos efficiently. The efficiency comes from reducing the max resolution size BEFORE uploading to Facebook.
  • Face recognition suggestions are only displayed now under the ‘Suggestions’ heading. Previously they were also displayed at the top of the Unidentified Faces section. But this made things a little confusing and caused the screen to jump around a bit while tagging, so we have split things up under their respective headings.

Jan 21, 2013 – Fotobounce releases V3.7.7

Happy New Year! Fotobounce has just released Version 3.7.7 with the following features:

  • Ability to reorder photos in an album. Previously you were able to show photos in ascending or descending date order. And now you can create a custom order for presentation purposes and uploading to Facebook and other social networks. There is a new tab available when browsing photo albums called “Custom Order”. Click on that tab. Select one or more photos to move, right-click and select “Reorder”, then click on the photo you want to move the previously selected photos ahead of in the order. The new order is immediately reflected on the display and that is used for slide shows etc.
  • Function for exporting faces to an external file folder. You can now select a set of faces or a couple of people and export those faces to a folder where you can use those images for other purposes. Simply right click to get the menu option to Export Faces. For example, you could create a collage using the exported faces. While exporting you can also set the image size for the faces.
  • Increase in the number of faces included in the recognition task – from a max of 10,000 to 20,000 if available system memory is at least 2GB. Most newer systems have plenty of RAM so we have increased the number of unidentified faces we check for possible matches with your known people list. This will give you better recognition results and make the task of tagging your photos go twice as fast!
  • Ability to reset social network service settings. This feature from the Tools menu will allow you to wipe out all previous session information for your social networks.

Feb 12, 2011 – supporting Sleeping Children Around the World charity

Fotobounce is pleased to support Sleeping Children Around the World. Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW) donations provide bedkits to children of any race and/or religion who will benefit the most; typically being located in underdeveloped and developing countries. No portion of a bedkit donation is spent on administration — 100% reaches a needy child. Each *$35 donation (Canadian funds) provides a bedkit that consists of a mat or mattress, pillow, sheet, blanket, mosquito net (if applicable), clothes outfit, towel and school supplies. Bedkit contents vary from country to country depending upon local needs. Since its founding by Murray and Margaret Dryden in 1970, SCAW has raised over $23 million to provide bedkits for children in 33 countries. In 2009 we reached our millionth child.
