May 1/2011 – Fotobounce Reaches 100,000 Users

My name is Ray Ganong and I’m the President of Applied Recognition, the creators of Fotobounce.

I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank you, our users, for enthusiastically supporting our product. Your great support has pushed us across the 100,000 user mark in April 2011. But don’t worry, we are not sitting still! We are very excited about the next release of Fotobounce, Version 3.5, which has significant improvements and enhancements including:

• Our face recognition accuracy is now over 80% better and our speed has increased by 50%. And, we now cluster unidentified faces together, making it much easier and faster to tag people.
• 3.5 also has the Ability to post photos to Twitter™. You can post multiple photos or entire albums to Twitter in a single tweet.
• We have added editing enhancements. Cropping and color modifications can now be done from within the photo viewer. Your Original photos are always preserved and image modifications made by Fotobounce can be undone if necessary.
• On the performance side, the speed by which photos are moved between users in a private Fotobounce network improves with each new version and this release is no exception.
• And finally, we have added Support for Eye-Fi™ wireless camera cards. This feature allows users of Eye-Fi cards to send photos directly from their Eye-fi wireless SD cards to their Fotobounce inbox via the Eye-Fi network.

You will get more information about V3.5 in the next few weeks as we plan to release this before the end of May.

We have also just released a new Fotobounce Viewer product that is now available from the Google Android market. The Fotobounce Viewer works hand in hand with the main Fotobounce desktop product and offers a simplified and secure way to share your photos from remote computers and mobile devices. The Viewer currently works on Android 2.2+ devices and Windows, Mac and Linux computers. An iPhone version is coming soon. The user experience is simple enough that my 84 year old mother can enjoy the photos of our family without understanding all the features of the Fotobounce desktop product, and she doesn’t require an account for a public webserver which she has no interest in using. We think the Viewer will open up a new way for you to share and enjoy your photos.

Fotobounce offers a uniquely secure way to manage and share full resolution photos without leaving your photos exposed on a public website. Our primary goal is to continue to bring new features and functionality to enhance your ability to manage your photos and videos.

So to wrap up, thanks again for your great support. See our Youtube video with this announcement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8YsFlWVU6Y And, check out our Facebook and Twitter feed, and stay tuned for the launch of V3.5.

Feb 12/2011 – supporting Sleeping Children Around the World charity

Fotobounce is pleased to support Sleeping Children Around the World.  Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW) donations provide bedkits to children of any race and/or religion who will benefit the most; typically being located in underdeveloped and developing countries.  No portion of a bedkit donation is spent on administration — 100% reaches a needy child. Each *$35 donation (Canadian funds) provides a bedkit that consists of a mat or mattress, pillow, sheet, blanket, mosquito net (if applicable), clothes outfit, towel and school supplies. Bedkit contents vary from country to country depending upon local needs.  Since its founding by Murray and Margaret Dryden in 1970, SCAW has raised over $23 million to provide bedkits for children in 33 countries. In 2009 we reached our millionth child.  For more details please visit their website at: www.scaw.org

Feb 5/2011 – support for Cupids Against Cancer event

Fotobounce is pleased to support the annual Cupids Against Cancer event.  Cupids Against Cancer raises money for teens facing cancer across Canada.  A gala event is held around Valentines Day each year for the past 8 years.  For more details:  http://cupidsagainstcancer.com

Jan 6/2011 – V3.2 available

Fotobounce 3.2 was released. This version contains many new enhancements. For full details please Click here.

Here is a feature summary:

  • A new third pane (edit pane) on the right-side of the screen to view and edit information related to selections in the middle (thumbnail) pane.
  • A new “Permissions View” for albums (in edit pane) to see and modify access settings for other Bouncers (friends).
  • Ability to group Bouncers together, enabling simplified and faster setting of permissions to identify what albums Bouncers are able to access.
  • Uploading photos to Facebook pages in addition to your own albums. Pages are a relatively new concept on Facebook and used for promoting companies and organizations. Fotobounce can now be used to upload photos to any organization page on Facebook.
  • Direct transfer of photos from Flickr to Facebook and vice versa. This will be extremely beneficial for heavy Flickr users. Previously one had to download photos from Flickr and then upload them to Facebook in two separate steps. It also works in the other direction.
  • View and post comments on Facebook photos. It is much easier to browse photos on Facebook using Fotobounce than using Facebook itself, and now we have added the ability to comment on Facebook photos while you are browsing them in Fotobounce.
  • New ability to send photos to a Bouncer who may not be online at the moment. One of the previous restrictions for grabbing photos from another Bouncer was that they had to be online. With this new feature you can send an album (full resolution with all name tags) to one or more of your Bouncers. The photos are transferred to a secure holding area and the next time the recipient connects with Fotobounce they will see the photos in their Fotomail inbox.
  • Photos sent along with an invitation to join Fotobounce are transferred to our website. The recipient can view the photos by clicking on a link in the invitation email. This replaces the small thumbnails we were sending previously with invitations, and allows the recipient to enjoy the photos much more along with the name tags.

We have some important new features to tell you about. The first is a new photo printing option through our partner The Orange Photo Company. You can now print regular and large-sized prints (up to 24″x36″), photo greeting cards, collage prints, photos on various objects such as mugs and puzzles, and soft cover photo books from Fotobounce.

We are also very excited about Fotobounce V3.0, slated for public release in mid-May. With V3.0, you have the ability to create peer groups, making it super easy and secure to share photos directly with friends and family. So, similar to the way you connect with people via Skype to communicate, V3.0 will connect your Fotobounce systems together to share photos and tagging data. V3.0 will be a simple upgrade from V2.0. If you are still running V1.x of Fotobounce we strongly suggest you upgrade now by going to our download page. By doing this, you’ll be able to easily upgrade to V3.0 when it is available.

Click here for or a short video preview of Fotobounce V3.0. We do ask that you complete a (very) brief 4-question survey before you view the video. We really count on user feedback like yours to help guide our development direction and appreciate the time you take to provide it.

Remember that May is National Photo Month so spend some time organizing your photos and protecting your valuable digital memories.
